About the Trust
Welcome to Arran Civic Trust.
Arran Civic Trust exists to encourage interest in Arran's built environment, past and present. The island has many buildings of architectural, historical and local significance. By drawing attention to the best of Arran's built heritage, we hope to encourage its preservation and ensure that it remains part of the island's living future.
The Trust also advocates good design in new buildings, especially domestic housing, which is greatly needed on Arran. New development should meet modern needs while respecting the character of the island, its villages and its landscape.
Our interest is not exclusive or narrowly specialist. We want to help bring Arran's past alive, while also contributing constructively to its future. We do this by encouraging wider public understanding of good design, heritage and place.
The Trust's activities include publications, public lectures and visits to places of interest. We also monitor planning procedures on the island and submit comments or objections where appropriate.
The Trust has around 50 members, most of whom live on Arran. It is run by a small committee which meets monthly. New members, and anyone with skills, experience or enthusiasm to contribute, are always welcome.
